WHAT DRINKS CAN BE ENJOYED
ALCOHOL & PREGNANCY
DO NOT SIT WELL TOGETHER!
The good news is that you are pregnant, the bad news is that you will have to give up alcohol for a while. This is because, during pregnancy, the alcohol consumed goes directly into the baby’s bloodstream via the placenta. Certainly, in recent years, the availability for “mocktails ” (cocktails without alcohol) has allowed drinkers to enjoy a gin & tonic without the gin or a mojito without the rum … but what about those of us who prefer wine? Should we have to make do with a boring grapefruit juice? The French winemaking tradition has long rejected the idea of developing non-alcoholic wines, firstly because it goes against our wine drinking culture, but also because it is especially difficult to create a de-alcoholised product with taste characteristics similar to those of wine.
has come to the rescue and created a process of de-alcoholisation that preserves the aromas, vitamins and polyphenols with antioxidant properties naturally present in wine.
IMPOSSIBLE YOU THINK?
BONNE NOUVELLE HAS DONE IT!
The Bonne Nouvelle alcohol-free “wines” are not the offering of a group of fanatical “proponents of abstinence”, but that of a leading wine cooperative: Vinadeis.
The process? After following all the stages of a classic vinification, the wine’s alcohol is evaporated in a distillation process that takes place under vacuum at low temperature to disperse the alcohol molecules. This process preserves aromas and vitamins, while removing alcohol and reducing calories. The result is simply amazing, especially for the Bonne Nouvelle rosés and whites whose delectable taste may well make you want to continue drinking them well beyond your pregnancy!
